Prasoon Joshi honoured with Shailendra Samman
One is a seasoned words smith; the other creates waves with his poetic lyrics. One is a veteran; the other a youth icon. We are talking about poet Lyricists Neeraj and Prasoon Joshi. Music fans still go crazy with the former’s songs like Karwaan guzar gaya, rangila re, Phoolon ke rang se, while the latter’s creations from movies like TAARE ZAMEEN PAR, RANG DE BASANTI, PHIR MILENGE and DELHI 6 stir even the hardest of souls. Recently, Neeraj sahab presented Prasoon with the Shailendra Samman Award for Outstanding Literary Achievement for meaningful writing in Films. Prasoon, who was down-to-earth as ever, said, ”Such appreciation for one’s work is always a very humbling experience. Add to that, the award was presented to me by none other than Neeraj sahab. These will be some of my most cherished moments ever.”
Recently, Prasoon Joshi was in the scenic valleys of Dehradun to receive the Shailendra Samman Award for Outstanding Literary Achievement for meaningful writing in Films. Although this was another feather in Prasoon’s cap (and he was as humble as ever while receiving it), what came as a pleasant surprise to him was the appreciation he received from none other than the Chief Minister of the State, Mr Ramesh Pokhriyal’ Nishank” himself an erstwhile journalist and poet. Who would have imagined that Dr. Pokhriyal with his hectic schedule would have had the time to listen to Bollywood music? But then, such is the effect of Prasoon’s writing.
